On September 4, Nassau’s famous straw market was destroyed by a fire. The market was a popular tourist destination in the country heavily dependent on the tourism industry. The government declared a national disaster state. Several adjacent buildings were also burned, including the Ministry of Tourism. Police suspected that the fire was on fire.
